Kiln Carving

The process involves cutting. a pattern or design in ceramic fiber paper, then stacking glass on top of the pattern. and firing the piece in a kiln. Hold time is important and depends on the type of glass used.

Kiln carving is a technique that creates the appearance of carving but does not actually carve on glass.  The process is to cut pieces of fiber arrange the pieces and even stack pieces on a kiln shelf. Then place the glass on top and fire. As the glass is fired, the glass settles into the spaces between the fiber paper pieces creating the carved look.
