The process involves cutting. a pattern or design in ceramic fiber paper, then stacking glass on top of the pattern. and firing the piece in a kiln. Hold time is important and depends on the type of glass used.
Kiln carving is a technique that creates the appearance of carving but does not actually carve on glass. The process involves cutting a pattern or design in ceramic fiber paper or creating a ceramic clay sculpture, as used below.. The glass is then laid on top of the pattern and fired slowly in the kiln. The glass slumps into the design. No actual carving is involved; heat and the slumping over the design allow the glass to create texture and design!
